Intel fellows did some tests and determined that SSDs are not to be treated like regular disks, for example, fragmenting them can hinder the performance.
During the tests they explained that Windows 7 attempts to detect SSDs by the performance rating and automatically reconfigure itself to avoid automatic de-fragmentation and data pre-fetching, these techniques will not only affect the performance on SSDs but can also increase the power consumption. I am not a Windows Fan (neither a detractor) but as Grimsrud from Intel said "I'm very impressed with Windows 7. It's very encouraging".
